Genesis

17

1WHEN Abram was 99 years old, Yahvah appeared to him, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk well before me, and be faultless. 2And I will make my contract between me and you and will multiply you exceedingly. 3And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying, 4As for me, look, I am establishing my contract with you, and you will be a father of many peoples. 5Nor will your name be Abram any longer, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many peoples. 6And I will make you fruitful, and multiply you exceedingly; and I will make you father of many nations, and kings will come out of your loins. 7And I will establish my contract between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting contract, and I will be God to you and to your descendants after you. 8And I will give to you, and your descendants after you, the land in which you now reside temporarily, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

9And God said to Abraham, You will keep my contract, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. 10This is my contract, which you will keep between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you will be circumcised. 11And you will circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it will be a token of the contract between me and you. 12And he that is 8 days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, who is not of your descendants. 13He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, will be circumcised; and my contract will be in your flesh for an everlasting contract. 14And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person will be cut off from his people; for he has broken my contract.

15Then God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you will not call her name Sarai, for Sarah is her name. 16And I will bless her, and I will also give you a son by her; yes, I will bless him and make nations of him; and the kings of the people will come from him. 17Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said in his heart, Will a son be born to him who is 100 years old? Or will Sarah, who is 90 years old, bear a child? 18And Abraham said to God, Oh that Ishmael might live in your presence. 19And God said to Abraham, Truly, Sarah your wife will bear you a son; and you will call his name Isaac; and I will establish my contract with him as an everlasting contract, and with his descendants after him. 20And as for Ishmael, I have heard you; look, I have blessed him, and will multiply him, and will make him exceedingly great; 12 princes he will beget, and I will make him a great nation. 21But I will establish my contract with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year. 22And when God was through talking with him, he went up from Abraham.

23And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all of those who were born in his house and all of those who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin that very day, as God had said to him. 24And Abraham was 99 years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25And Ishmael his son was 13 years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26In that very day was Abraham circumcised and Ishmael his son 27And all the men of his household, both born in the house and bought with money. He also circumcised some of the strangers with him.
