Bible Time

¹YOU will make for yourselves no idols nor graven images, nor will you erect obelisks for yourselves, nor will you set up any image of stones in your land to bow down to them or worship them; for I am Yahvah your God. ²You will keep my commandments and reverence my sanctuary; I am Yahvah. ³If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them, ⁴Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land will yield its increase, and the trees of the field will yield their fruit. ⁵And your threshing will last to the time of vintage, and the vintage will last to the sowing time; and you will eat your bread to the full and live in your land safely. ⁶And I will give peace in your land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid; and I will rid vicious animals out of the land. The sword will not go through your land. ⁷And you will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword. ⁸And 5 of you will chase 100, and 100 of you will pursue 10,000; and your enemies will fall before you by the sword. ⁹For I will return to you and make you great and multiply you and establish my contract with you. ¹⁰And you will eat grain which has been stored, and bring forth the old grain before the new. ¹¹And I will set my tabernacle among you; and my soul will not abhor you. ¹²And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you will be my people. ¹³I am Yahvah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt that you should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright.

¹⁴But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, ¹⁵And if you despise my laws, or if your soul abhor my judgments so that you will not do all my commandments, and make my contract of no effect; ¹⁶I will also do this to you: I will visit you with terror, leprosy, scab, and the burning ague, that will consume the eyes and cause life to waste away; and you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. ¹⁷And I will pour out my anger against you, and you will be defeated before your enemies; those who hate you will reign over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you. ¹⁸And if, for all these things, you will not yet listen to me, then I will punish you 7 times more for your sins. ¹⁹And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven like iron and your earth like brass; ²⁰And your strength will be spent in vain; for your land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruits. ²¹And if you walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will bring 7 times more plagues on you according to your sins. ²²I will also send wild animals against you, which will bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and make you few in number; and your highways will be desolate. ²³And if by these things you will not be disciplined, but continue to walk contrary to me; ²⁴Then I will also walk contrary to you and will punish you yet 7 times for your sins. ²⁵And I will bring a sword on you, which will avenge the breaking of the contract; and you will flee to your cities; I will send pestilence among you; and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶And when I have broken the staff of your grain, 10 women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will deliver your bread by weight; and you will eat and not be satisfied. ²⁷And if, for all these things, you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me; ²⁸Then I will also walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you 7 times for your sins. ²⁹And you will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters you will eat. ³⁰And I will destroy your high places and break your idols and cast your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols, and my soul will abhor you. ³¹And I will make your cities waste and reduce your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors. ³²And I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies who live in it will be astonished at it. ³³I will scatter you among the Gentiles, and will draw out a sword against you; and your land will be desolate, and your cities waste. ³⁴Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate, while you are in your enemies' land; even then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. ³⁵As long as it lies desolate it will rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths when you lived on it. ³⁶And as for those who are left among you, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf will chase them; and they will flee as fleeing from the sword; and they will fall when no one pursues them. ³⁷And they will stumble one after another, as it were from the sword, when no one pursues them; and they will have no power to stand before their enemies. ³⁸And you will perish among the Gentiles, and the land of your enemies will devour you. ³⁹And those of you who are left will pine away in their iniquity in their enemies' lands; and also in the iniquity of their fathers they will pine away with them.

⁴⁰If they will confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their wickedness with which they transgressed against me, and they have also walked contrary to me; ⁴¹And that I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies; and if then their uncircumcised heart will be humbled, and they then will accept the punishment of their iniquity; ⁴²Then I will remember my contract with Jacob, and also my contract with Isaac, and my contract with Abraham I will remember; and I will remember the land. ⁴³The land will also be left by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; and they will accept the punishment of their iniquity because they have despised my judgments and because their soul abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not abhor them, nor will I cast them away to destroy them utterly, nor have I nullified my contract with them; for I am Yahvah their God. ⁴⁵But I will for their sakes remember the contract of their ancestors whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, and I became their God; I am Yahvah. ⁴⁶These are the commandments and laws and judgments which Yahvah made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
