Details on Oil Spill
The BP oil spill began arriving at land.
The "thick darkness" was finally starting to get close to people and land.
Estimates for the duration of the open well ranged to 3 months, a match to the prophetic reference of "3 days" which are passing at 1 day in the text as 1 month on the ground now.
Greek Financial Crisis
The Europeans agreed to a Greek bailout. The $146B bailout is the largest ever assembled for a country.
40 percent of the cost of the bailout was carried by the IMF, itself 30 percent carried by US taxpayers. This effectively transferred much of the cost of bailing out Greece away from Europeans, much of it to US taxpayers.
More importantly the European Central Bank suspended collateral rules for Greek debt, effectively trashing the Euro as a reserve currency. Markets began responding almost immediately with a drop in the value of the Euro.
