Persian Gulf War, Prophesies from Daniel

The book of Daniel adds details to this story. This article explores the Goat and the Ram from Daniel. It leaves open a second event, a second war, involving Persia (Iran or Afghanistan).

Background

The story that attracts attention as prophecy for the Persian Gulf War is found in Daniel chapter 8. Many of the details of this vision are remarkably like the Gulf War. Here are some of the details.

  • Daniel is told this is an end-times story.1

    • This war happened after the seal date "popped" July 3, 1990. This war is in the "last day" governed by the day for a year outline that we are following on this site.

  • The king of Greece would attack the "Medes and Persians". 2

    • This prophecy is unique in that it uses country names known in ancient times. Greece was the western world super power of the day when this was written. Prophetically the modern "Greece" in 1991 is still the western world super power, but the seat of that power has moved from the islands at the eastern end of the Mediterranean to the islands across the Atlantic, to the United States and her allies.

The Medes and Persians retain their places nearly unchanged into the modern era. Iran's name was formally changed from Persia only in the 1930s. Iraq, the western neighbor to Persia was known anciently as the Medes.

The Persian Gulf War was fought primarily against the Iraqis. The Iraqis thought they had support from Iran. At one point they flew airplanes to Iran for "safe keeping." Iran was not particularly neighborly, as the two had fought a pointless war in the 1980s. Iran and the United States would kick off a covert war in late 1995, details follow on a later page.

  • The armies of Greece would cross the whole earth without touching the ground.

    • The Persian Gulf War was the very first war where the armies went entirely by air to the front. Only the merchant marine who were delivering cargo and some allied navel forces traveled by sea. This was the first time this had ever happened. (The technology for this being about 50 years old.)

  • Daniel was told that in the first round of this war the western powers would furiously trample the "first horn" or Medes.3

    • Iraq was dealt a stunning military defeat. Far worse than what the numbers of combatants would suggest.

Daniel was shown that at this first stage the "Westerners" would trample the Medes/.4 This is exactly what happened in the Gulf War.

Many parts of Daniel's vision remain to be fulfilled. The Persian side has not been fought. It remains for a future date when the Persians win in their fight with the Westerners.

Daniel's story suggests a second war between the United States and the Iranians, the other horn. A horn that grows up later. That war began in late 1995. A war we turn to next.
