I am working on a replacement article for this entire story. This hurricane was a prophetically based in modern replays of the Book of Jonah. The Superdome was his whale. There is as much material on the timing, causes and consequences as there was for 9/11, perhaps more.
As with Jonah, 40 days of national warning has begun, up around October 3, 2005. There may be another 10 days of mercy after the 40 days are over. Bush must call national repentance and fasting, as the leaders of Nineveh did in Jonah's day, to prevent more...
Katrina follows some interesting historical headlines related to Tsunami and water. It also turns out to be related to the Book of Jonah in a host of ways. A replacement article will be online by September 7.
For the past several days Hurricane Katrina has been slowly churning across Florida and then into Mississippi.
In the process one of the main New Orleans levies broke and much of the city is is flooded with water.
There were no clear timed prophetic stories for Katrina's land fall on the gulf coast. But, the story maps against several other known headlines all related to major flooding. There is also a hint of the flooding referenced in a related psalm.
The most important time line that matters to modern headlines now is the standard "day-for-a-year" replay of the Bible's historical time line. This series of prophetic stories has been running since 1974 and will continue to run for many more years.
Roughly speaking the year 365 AD was a match to Sunday, August 28, 2005 using that standard day-for-a-year math.
The most important historical event in 365 AD was a major Tsunami, and other related events, in the eastern Mediterranean.
Historian Ammianus Marcellinus recorded the details of a Tsunami that struck on July 21, 365 AD.
Marcellinus's account accurately details the outflow of water, the people who ventured into the now exposed sea floor and how they were killed by the the mighty in rush that went in land by 2 miles. His account records that 50,000 people perished.
The entire eastern section of the Roman empire was impacted by this event and the empire held a candlelight memorial every year for many years there after.
Unlike a regular tsunami, Marcellinus also reports that there were astronomical effects, like a storm or something similar. This is inconsistent with a simple undersea earthquake, and usually ignored by scientists studying the account.
The time of the replay of that Tsunami was around 9:00 PM central time in the United States on Saturday, August 27, 2005.
Of course the prophetic replay of that event was hurricane Katrina. At about the exact time of the replay there had been a full evacuation ordered for the city of New Orleans.
Unlike Alexandria, which was not evacuated, this time there was mercy, as people fled the destruction.
The time line is structured in a way that reveals the patterns of what God has been doing in history. In this case the time of that Tsunami, and of Katrina itself, maps to several other important water related events.
Those events come from October, November and December in 1913. They are "prophetic matches" to hurricane Katrina. By studying these other events the full range of possible fulfillment can be seen.
The Panama Canal opened in October of 1913. Ships could now travel between the oceans. It was a fulfillment related to water and the seas.
The Los Angeles Aqueduct opened in November of 1913, providing "flood" waters to the thirsty city of Los Angles.
The Ambrym Volcano erupted in December of 1913, providing events in the sky and minor tidal waves in its immediate vicinity.
I normally put scripture first in these reports, but in this case the related stories are unclear, unrelated, or perhaps badly translated.
The closest known scripture to all of these events is Psalm 123 that prophetic "hit" in October of 1913. The following is the text:

The only clear reference to headlines is verse 2, which in some translations uses the word "slaves" instead of the more politically correct, "servants."
Also interesting to note is the following psalm 124, which has more affinity to September 12, 2005, but which might have an aspect here.
26 Psalms 124:1-8

Here there is praise for surviving the flood.
Of course there is still time for another hurricane before September, so we should remain watching for further fulfillment until then.
I remain convinced that there will eventually be a massive Tsunami in the Gulf Coast and Florida areas. Storms like this serve a redemptive purpose, they scare people into getting out of harms way.
Even in the case of Rome in 365 AD, the Tsunami caused people to turn back to God. Maybe some will turn this time too.
Dear heavenly father, we pray you would use this to turn hearts back to Jesus. In his name, Amen.
