The Israeli army began its ground invasion of Gaza Strip. Gaza was cut into 3 parts as the IDF moved in under the cover of darkness.
Theoretical Time:
1When I have called you, you have answered me, my god and savior of my righteousness; you have comforted me when I was in distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2Men, how long will you obscure my glory? How long will you love vanity? Do you want deception forever?
3But know that Yahvah has set apart for himself him who is wonderful; Yahvah will hear when I call to him.
4Be angry yet do not sin; commune with your own heart and meditate on your bed.
5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in Yahvah.
6There are many that say, Who can show us a good man so that he may shine on us the light of his countenance?
7Yahvah, you have put gladness in my heart more than in the time that their wheat and their wine and their oil increased.
8In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you, Yahvah, alone, make me live in safety.
Under cover of darkness, across the night of January 2 and 3, 2009, the Israeli Defense Force began its much anticipated ground invasion of Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Air Force had been bombing targets, estimated at around 1000, for the better part of a week. Now it was time to cut Gaza into 3 parts and begin a siege of Gaza City.
The timing on this was exquisite. The theoretical time was around 3:00 AM on Saturday January 3, 2009, and the invasion was begun within hours of this point.
References in the Psalm to sleep are probably references to the night time attack.
So far operations have gone overwhelmingly in Israel's favor, a ratio strongly suggested by the content of the Psalm.
Verse 1: Request to God for mercy appears to be seen in the very low number of Israeli soldiers killed. 1 so far in the ground assault, about 30 wounded.
Verse 2: "Sons of Men" is "Sons of Adam" and a likely reference to the Philistines.
Verse 3-8: Returns to the theme of praying for safety, also mentions sleeping, a feature of the previous Psalm. This is also linked to the time of day of the Gaza invasion, 3:00 AM in the morning.
