26 Psalms 54
1Save me, God, by your name, and judge me by your strength;
2hear my prayer, God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
3For strangers are risen up against me, and the mighty seek after my life; they have disregarded you, God.
4Look, God is my helper; Master sustains my soul.
5Bring disaster to my enemies; silence them in your truth.
6I will freely sacrifice to you; I will praise your name, Yahvah, for it is good;
7for you have delivered me out of all troubles; and my eye has seen my enemies defeated.
California is holding a series of special elections on this date, May 19, 2009, in an attempt to raise more taxes from the people.
Early polling suggests most or all of these measures will go down in defeat, a term used in verse 7.
The Psalmist appears to be speaking from the perspective of the public, and the defeat of these measures is the defeat of those working against the people.
Much of the public administration across the state of California has risen up against God, and the text suggests the venue for this Psalm will have done that. (See verse 3.)
